Prep the car for the summer road trip

Spring was a roller-coaster of emotion for most families. Many people ended up canceling spring break vacations and family trips. However, most people are planning to make up for the lost time.

According to the New York Post, a survey of 2,000 Americans found 88 percent of respondents mapped out at least one trip for the summer months and 53 percent said they would plan at least one road trip.

More drivers will likely hit the road this summer and explore up the east coast. If you are one of those travelers, there are a few tips to consider to make sure your road trip is as safe as possible.

Five road trip tips for travelers

These are tips that should drivers know before they hit the road:

  • Check your car beforehand – It’s critical to maintain your vehicle throughout the year correctly. But it’s especially important to check your car before taking a long road trip. Check your car’s fluids, battery and tires before you pack of the family car.
  • Plan the details – It’s fun to have random spots along the drive. But it’s crucial to outline the essential information beforehand. Are you staying in any hotels? What is your budget? Who will drive first? What are your must-sees?
  • Set up the entertainment – There are so many forms of entertainment to listen to in the car, including podcasts, music and audiobooks. Plan out several options and make a playlist before you leave. It will make the drive feel much faster for everyone in the car.
  • Prepare for an emergency– No one wants to expect an accident, but it’s good to prepare anyways. First, make a kit for the car with a first aid kit, and extra food and water. Next, learn how to change a tire if you don’t know already. Both circumstances are unlikely, but you will be happy you are prepped.
  • Watch for unsafe drivers– You might be careful, but some drivers are not. Keep a safe distance from trucks and other vehicles.

The most important aspect is to have fun! A little preparation beforehand allows you to be free during your actual trip.
