Charlotte Pediatric Malpractice Attorney

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, medical errors are one of the nation’s leading causes of death and injury, especially for children who may have trouble communicating their symptoms or getting treatment appropriate to their small size.

At DeVore, Acton & Stafford, P.A., our Charlotte pediatric malpractice lawyers hold negligent doctors accountable for their mistakes. While not every medical error rises to the level of malpractice, we take the time to talk with families about the medical errors that happen to their children. We review medical records and consult with knowledgeable pediatricians and other medical experts. If pediatric malpractice has occurred, we have the resources and experience to help you get the results you deserve.

Handling A Wide Range Of Pediatric Errors

Pediatric malpractice can involve a wide range of errors. Pediatricians may give children the wrong medicines or the wrong amount of medication, resulting in medication overdose. Children may not receive the oxygen they need during an allergic reaction, leading to brain injuries from oxygen deprivation. Pediatric malpractice may also result from a surgical error, from an emergency room error, or from failure to diagnose or misdiagnosis of a child’s illness such as cancer or meningitis.

In a recent case we handled, a mother took her small child to the emergency room because the child was having difficulty breathing. The child was given a respiratory treatment and admitted to the hospital overnight. During the night, another respiratory attack occurred. The next day, the mother begged the hospital for further treatment, but the child was released from the hospital anyway — in clear violation of hospital policies and procedures. At home later that day, the child suffered another respiratory attack and passed away.

Holding Doctors Accountable For Medical Errors In Children

Many attorneys only take cases involving injuries to working adults with families to support. They do this because these cases often bring higher jury verdicts and settlements. At our medical malpractice law firm, we do things differently. We understand that a child’s injury or the loss of a child is devastating to a family, so we take action to hold pediatricians accountable for malpractice.
